Leeds Rhinos Close To Completing Signing Of New Coach
NRL 360 has stated that Lebanon's head coach Michael Cheika is close to agreeing on a deal to join the Leeds Rhinos, ahead of the new 2023 Super League season
Leeds Rhinos are closing in on their new coach and are set to finalise a deal for Lebanon's Australian coach Michael Cheika.
The 56-year-old was this week named as the new coach of the 2023 premiership champions Penrith Panthers in the NRL. Paddy Power have since suspended betting on Cheika replacing Rohan Smith at Headingley, who will depart the club at the end of the season.
Cheika knows rugby league inside out and if he does sign for the Rhinos, he’ll be the latest in a long line of Australian coaches to take charge at Headingley. The Rhinos have had 11 Australian head coaches since returning to the top-flight in 1998, but they have welcomed just three English coaches during that time.
